SUV slams into Stone Mountain home

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -

Authorities say a man lost control of his SUV and slammed into a Stone Mountain home on Tuesday.

Dorothy Cater was in her bedroom with her three grandchildren when she heard the SUV crash into her home on Big Valley Lane.

"I couldn't see what was around there, what had hit the house. I didn't know what it was," Cater said.

Her neighbor, Barbara Smith, said that she saw the SUV barreling down the road towards Cater's home.

"It looked like he was trying to stop it and it didn't. It pulled to the left and that's when I said to my daughter, ‘He isn't going to be able to stop,'" said Smith.

Cater tells said her biggest concern was her house exploding from a ruptured natural gas line.

"I called the gas company they told me to get out of the house because there could be an explosion," said Cater.

Cater said that the driver told her his brakes went out. She's thankful he and everybody else got out alive.

"We can get another house," said Cater. "We can walk away, thank God."

Rescue crews had to free the man who was trapped inside the SUV.

The driver of the SUV was charged with striking a fixed object.
