CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Pilsen neighborhood woman died Monday after she was struck by an SUV while walking in northwest suburban Rosemont.

Rosemont police said the incident occurred at 5:16 a.m. Monday near the intersection of southbound River Road and the I-90 off ramp, where a pedestrian was struck by an SUV.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Maria Patino, 59, of the 1100 block of West 19th Street.

She was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she died about 40 minutes later, according to the medical examiner's office.

An autopsy Tuesday showed Patino died of multiple blunt force injuries from being struck by an automobile, according to the medical examiner's office. The death was ruled an accident.

Rosemont police Cmdr. Gregory Nazuka said the driver stopped at the scene and "rendered aid" to the victim until police and paramedics arrived.

He said the incident "was not a criminal matter" and no citations were issued, though it remains under investigation.
