DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Detroit Police continue the search for the escaped prisoner, Abraham Pearson. Officers spread out their search earlier in the day, but now authorities have called the search back to Jefferson and Helen, where they believe Pearson is still hiding.

They are hoping to catch Pearson before nightfall.

Police say Pearson escaped from a holding cell at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice early Monday morning. Police believe he stabbed a sheriff's deputy, stole and put on his uniform, walked out of the courthouse then proceeded to carjack a motorist.

The carjacking victim spoke to Fox 2.

Police say Pearson was in court today facing sentencing after being convicted last month of carjacking, armed robbery and firearms charges, according to court records. He was facing 10-15 years in jail, but now he will most likely be facing greater charges that could land him even more time behind bars.
