DETROIT (WJBK) -

Police say they're looking for suspects who broke into the homes of two elderly women on Detroit's west side and attacked one of them.

The police department says in a statement that the three males first broke into the lower level of a two-family flat about 3:10 a.m. Monday. FOX 2's Roop Raj says an 89-year-old woman heard noises and was hit with an object after seeing the suspects.

Police say one suspect also entered the upper level residence of an 83-year-old woman named Bernice. Personal items were taken from both women. "When I looked up there were two in the room and they were asking for the money and saying 'where's the jewelry?'" said Bernice.

Police say they were called to the scene shortly after the break-in and saw the suspects leaving. Officers pursued them on foot, but the suspects escaped.

The 89-year-old woman refused medical treatment. Tips on the break-in are being sought. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
