DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

Rev. Wendell Anthony and other neighbors on Detroit's west side are working together to clean up their streets lined in garbage, which young kids must walk through every day to get to the bus stop.

Several of the trashed lots are owned by the Fellowship Chapel, where Rev. Anthony preaches. He says blight is a continuing problem in this neighborhood.

Rev. Wendell tells Wiley, "We've spent thousands of dollars on fencing. We've fenced all of this in, we've picked up and cleaned up trash at least five, six, seven, eight, nine times. People continue to dump."

Some parts of the area are showing improvement. Wendell says, "Where my pulpit is, used to be a dope house. Now it's a hope house."

After a Fox 2 crew was in the area, city crews did come out and sweep up some of the streets, but parents and Rev. Wendell say it's not enough. They will be organizing volunteer days where you can come out and help clean up these streets for good.
