Buono Attacks Christie’s Weight?

Posted: Updated:

Governor Chris Christie is going after his Democratic opponent Barbara Buono for saying that she doesn’t want to see the Governor “frolicking” on the beach because that wouldn’t make her want to visit to the Jersey Shore, in reference to Christie’s “Stronger Than The Storm” campaign commercials.

Now the Governor has taken offense to her words and claims that he is surprised that Buono would go “that low to attack his weight”.

Political Strategist Julia Roginsky weighed in on the political issue-no pun intended, saying that, “I think he is doing the smart thing politically.  He’s taking the message away from what she’s trying to talk about and turning it back around on her.”

Christie is currently up in the polls by 20 points so are these jabs back at Buono going to help his career or hurt it? Roginsky said, “He wants to win by 7,000 points.  He’s going to go to Iowa and New Hampshire and say I won in a Democratic state, I can do the same thing nationally and take Democrats down.”

But was Buono really referring to Christie’s weight when she used the word ‘frolicking”? Many people feel like this could be Christie’s way of gaining sympathy votes.  It also has some speculating that he is showing some kind of fear by trying to make her look like the bad guy.

Roginsky went on to say that, “He has raised expectations so high that if he doesn’t kill her by 30 or 40 points people are going to say Chris Christie couldn’t do the job.”

There are 700,000 more democrats in the state of New Jersey and while some of them will still vote for Christie, Roginisky says, “He’s going to have a problem especially with Democratic women.  Democratic women especially are gonna come home to Barbara Buono and it’s not suggesting that he’s gonna lose this race, but I’m suggesting it’s going to be closer than people might think.”
