Tent City Fire

Posted: Updated:
Lakewood, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

A fire erupted in Lakewood’s Tent City when a couple's tent exploded into flames.

The man who runs the camp, known as Pastor Steve, says they are unsure of what happened, but they think it may have been caused by a candle.

Residents of Tent City awoke to heat around them and the light from the flames. The township's fire department had to use an off-road vehicle to get back into the woods.  They were finally able to put out the flames and no one was hurt.

The couple doesn’t have a place to live and many people fear that these are the very situations that make it unsafe to have communities like this exist.

The surrounding community of Lakewood is also concerned about incidents like this possibly causing flames to travel into the surrounding woods and threaten nearby homes.

Should New Jersey towns get into the mortgage business? Two long-time Irvington New Jersey residents, Mary Whetstone and Yves Louis, say that the mortgage crisis in town has gotten out of control and something has to be done. “Every block there’s one or two or three, foreclosures on it. And if it keeps on like this, every house is going to be foreclosed,” Whetstone said.

By now you’ve probably seen how Chasing New Jersey is always trying to figure out new ways to get the perfect shot. You’ve seen the Chasers in planes, blimps, boats and often recording in their cars. But have no fear; the Chasers are not putting themselves or fellow motorists at risk by driving and recording themselves at the same time.

Carmageddon, the lord of all traffic nightmares was predicted yesterday morning due to the closure of the northbound Pulaski Skyway. What was supposed to historically be the worst Monday commute ever, thankfully turned out to be just the opposite. Now many motorists are wondering what all the fuss was about.

Volunteers are working to help save one of the only stadiums still in existence where black professional baseball teams once played. Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson was once home to the New York Black Yankees, the New York Cubans and other Negro League teams. Eleven members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame played there, including Larry Doby.

Robert De Niro says Tribeca Film Festival is his passion

Robert De Niro is a family man, a filmmaker, an entrepreneur and one of my favorite actors of all time. He's also a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, which has more to see than ever before. De Niro wears just as many hats on screen as he does in real life. The father of six starred in six films last year, owns four restaurants and a hotel, and still finds time each spring for the Tribeca Film Festival, Lower Manhattan's annual cinematic showcase.
