Exotic bird takes up residence at Scottsdale City Hall

Updated:
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -

Scottsdale City Hall employees were puzzled when an exotic bird started hanging out outside their offices. Turns out the bird was in dire need of rescue – and the employees are looking for its owner.

He's a rose breasted cockatoo. A loveable and social companion, according to Mark Clark, the public information officer for the Scottsdale Police Department.

"He was on the ground on the grass, someone actually saw him there the night before and they thought it was a pigeon because it's kind of gray to the back and then they saw it there the next morning."

Clark has been bird sitting for the now nameless feathered friend, in hopes his owner will come forward and claim him.

"He's been chased a lot, he's kind of skittish and it took a couple of days for him to calm down."

Employees spotted the bird by city hall on North Drinkwater Blvd last Tuesday night. The following day they caught him and brought him inside.

He was dehydrated and didn't have the strength to fly.

"He needs a big cage, he needs someone who is going to be around all the time and give him a lot of attention and he is like he is just as gentle as can be for a bird that has been traumatized so much."

Clark is hopeful someone will see the bird and come forward, but until then is happy to lend his home and take care of the cockatoo.

Clark says they will work with a rescue next week to try to find the bird a new home if the owner doesn't come forward.

Anyone with any information on the bird or the owner is asked to contact Scottsdale city officials.
