Electric Zoo Festival Fallout - New York News

Electric Zoo Festival Fallout

Posted: Updated:

This weekend two young concert-goers overdosed on “Molly” at the New York City Electronic Music Festival, Electric Zoo forcing the city to close it down for the final day of the 3-day event.

“Molly” seems to be the latest party drug that is sweeping the nation, and while a lot of people have heard of “Molly” not many people know what it is or understand the party lifestyle that goes along with it.

Molly is MDMA which is like ecstasy from the 80’s and 90’s but is said to be a “purer form”. So if it’s more “pure” does that make it less dangerous?  Many people are saying that after these recent overdoses at the Electric Zoo Festival that the dangerousness of this drug has been downplayed.  In fact, Molly is being glamorized in today’s popular music by artists like: Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, T.I. and countless others in the media.

Molly also seems to be running rampant at these electronic music festivals that are taking place all over the county.  While these events like Electric Zoo and Miami’s highly anticipated “Ultra” Festival have been going on for years, the popularity of “Molly” has only recently been talked about. Is it because of its presence in today’s music scene? Or do people just assume that it’s safer than other drugs that were taken in the past?

In 2011 more than 22,000 MDMA related emergency room visits happened across the country, that’s 120% higher than in 2004.
