Pull Your Pants Up Day - New York News

Pull Your Pants Up Day

Posted: Updated:
Newark, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Saggy pants bans are sweeping across the country.

Now there is an initiative being fronted by actor Rodney Allen Rippy to have a national Pull Your Pants Up day. There is even a website for the initiative: pullyourpantsupnow.com.

Rippy says, “I want to kick off a national if not global movement and commemorate this day. It’s a time to kind of tighten-up and self-reflect because I really don’t believe people who are actually walking around sagging are really thinking about the systemic way they are being discriminated against.”

He describes this movement as an awareness campaign to let those who are sagging their pants know that people are painting a “gigantic target” on them and it’s giving people the ammo to make judgment calls.

"This may sound far fetched but you can best believe the very people who will fight all the way to the Supreme Court for you to dress like this... will never personally be seen (nor their children) dressed like this," Rippy says.

He hopes to hold the Pull Your Pants Up day on May 2nd, 2014 with worldwide observances.

Photographer David Nilson has traveled the world swimming, surfing, and photographing the ocean. He's taken his camera to Costa Rica, Fiji, California, and up and down the entire east coast, but some of his most beautiful work stems from right here in New Jersey specifically at Seaside Park, where he was born and raised.

When Denis Belliveau is teaching kids about Marco Polo, he is in his element. He makes the explorer's journey come alive by taking students on a No. 7 train ride through Queens, New York's most diverse borough. He brings history alive for his students. Along the way the students stop in neighborhoods that mirror Polo's trip. I caught up with the class in Flushing, Queens, which easily resembles China.

A judge allowed a confession tape to be played in court in connection with the case of Etan Patz, who vanished in 1979. On the tape, Pedro Hernandez described how he killed Patz. But his lawyers say Hernandez falsely confessed and doesn't understand his rights. Before Hernandez's videotaped confession was played, Patz's mother quickly left the courtroom unable to watch the video.
