Local doctor talks about possible military action against Syria

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. may be on it's own when it comes to military action against Syria.

The British Parliament voted against backing a strike. Other allies including Germany have said they're not going to get involved and France wants to wait until U.N. Inspectors finish their investigation into the possible use of chemical weapons.

Right now, five U.S. destroyers are near the coast of Syria in preparation for a possible attack.
As the U.S. considers taking action against Syria, protests are taking place across the country urging the U.S. not to get involved in the crisis.

Fox 2's Roop Raj spoke to one man about the possibility of another battle in the Middle East.

Dr. Yahya Basha has lost cousins at the hands of the Assad regime in Syria. Even though he's been in the U.S. for 40 years, he is saddened by recent reports the Syrian government used chemical weapons on its own people.

"The people want a journey to democracy, prosperity to education and science to a decent living," says Basha.

The Obama administration has been steadfast in its stance to take on Syria although a timeline is unclear.  The possibility of war in the Middle East is frightening.

Basha says widows and orphans are now the latest victims of the chemical attacks. He says would welcome intervention but it would have to be an effective change not just symbolic.

He adds, "It needs to be serious to get people to sit at the table and negotiate."
