RIVERSIDE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police in west suburban Riverside are asking for help locating a man who attempted to lure a junior high school girl into his vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The girl was walking to Hauser Junior High, which did not have class on Tuesday, when the man slowed his black, four-door Toyota sedan near Woodside and North Delaplaine roads and attempted to ask her for directions about 2:25 p.m., Riverside police said in a release.

After she ignored his request for directions, the man again tried to get her attention, this time by saying the word "candy," the release states.

The girl told police that the man then seemed to watch her for another 20 seconds before driving away in another direction.

The man did not exit his vehicle or touch the girl, police said. There have not been any other similar reports made to police, the release states.

The man was described as in his 40s, with black glasses, a dark complexion and short black hair.

At the time, he was wearing peach-colored business clothing.

Anyone with useful information is asked to call Riverside police at 708-447-2127.
