Burbank Sidewalk Controversy Heats Up Near Luther Middle School

Posted: Updated:

Imagine this, you have a nice front yard, with a beautifully landscaped lawn that extends to the street. Would you want to lose part of your lawn to a sidewalk you neither want, nor believe you need?

This is the question some residents in Burbank are facing.  Now that school is back in session, the debate of installing sidewalks in front of homes near Luther Middle School is heating up, again.  At the core of the issue for school officials is student safety, but homeowners say the real problem is congestion in the area.

A $125 thousand dollar federal grant is supposed to be used to install sidewalks along two city blocks to provide students with a safe walking path to.

But some homeowners don't want their front yards torn up to build the sidewalk. At the last council meeting on the issue, back in 2011, only one council member voted against the project. Let's see what happens when the topic comes up for discussion at tonight's meeting.

We'll be there!
