PHILADELPHIA -

After several months in the hospital and agonizing surgeries, 11-year-old Sarah Murnaghan finally returned home in late August.

FOX 29 tracked the 11-year-old girl's battle with Cystic Fibrosis since June, when her family began a public campaign to get their little girl a new set of lungs.

Now, weeks after two very risky transplants and several surgeries, she has returned to her Delaware County home, arriving shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Sarah was dying from cystic fibrosis and in dire need for a double lung transplant. Her story made international headlines when her family fought a rule that prevented her from getting onto an adult organ transplant list because she was under the age of 12.

The rule was eventually suspended during a court battle, and Sarah got her lungs.

However, she wound up getting two double-lung transplants after the first one failed.

FOX 29 was glued to her family's Facebook page for Sarah's mom to post updates, watching and praying as Sarah overcame pneumonia and accepted her lungs.

And finally on Monday came the post we were waiting for, when they announced Sarah is well enough to go home.

"We've been always praying and thinking about her, sending her positive thoughts and it's such a relief for all of us," said neighbor Felice Hefferan.

Hefferan added of her son, Ryan, "He's asking about when Sarah is coming home. He's very close with Sarah's siblings. It's been great."

Ryan said, "I like Sarah because I haven't seen her in a long time. "

You could feel the excitement when Sarah finally came home. Friends, neighbors and family gathered as the Murnaghan's gave a little press conference in front of their home. As 11-year-old Sarah Murnaghan waves hello from her front doorsteps, a miracle came true for her.

"We're proud of Sarah and what she achieved. She's so strong to be getting here today," said Fran Murnaghan, Sarah's dad.

Since Sarah's homecoming, she's learned to breath on her own and has been schooling from home.
