Miss America Contestant Battles Lyme Disease

Posted: Updated:
Atlantic City, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

The Miss America pageant is returning to Atlantic City,  with the final night on September 15.  Miss Delaware, Rebecca Jackson, was in the Chasing New Jersey studio to discuss her battle with Lyme Disease, which she has described to be the “worst experience of her life.”

The CDC recently reported that about 300,000 people get Lyme Disease annually – that’s 10 times more common than previously thought.  Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ)  is championing a Chronic Lyme Legislation.  He calls the situation a crisis in desperate need of federal support. Smith says, “This is a huge health crisis that begs government action, particularly on the part of the federal government.” He says that this announcement will greatly impact those who need help.

Miss Delaware opened up  about her struggles with Lyme Disease, as well as her preparation for the Miss America pageant.
