What Really Happened With Westlake High School Football?

Posted: Updated:

Everyone was hot and bothered at Westlake High in lovely Westlake Village today... Hot because it was about 100 degrees during afternoon football practice and bothered by us pesky media types trying to get to the bottom of the story about what happened during the football teams trip to Hawaii last week.

Apparently each year Westlake High footballers and their families and boosters raise money for an out of town trip to start the season, this year it was Honolulu...impressive... about 150 players freshman, JV, Varsity, coaches, some parents.. Bottom line, there was a disturbance Wed night in the hotel ... a number, ( we've heard 5 to 25) of seniors ''broke into'' a room with a bunch of freshman, apparently concerned with a perceived lack of respect. There was some sort of confrontation, when it was over, ( no one says how long it lasted) one student would be placed under arrest ( we believe either Thurs night or Fri ) on suspicion of , of all things , a sexual assault.  Later, the Prosecutor declined to file charges, everyone came home, and everyone apparently wants it to go away. There were also reports that five players have been suspended, though that is not definite.

I spoke with the Prosecutors office in Honolulu , who hid behind the '' we never comment on cases involving minors'', true but annoying.  When they want to talk about a case involving a minor, they are happy to ( see Hannah Anderson) .  I asked him ''hypothetically'' what a ''3rd degree sexual assault'' case could mean, he said it could be something like ''inappropriate touching."  Doesn't really clear it up.  My colleague Hal Weiner spoke with the Superintendent of the Cone Valley school district, who insisted this was all ''blown out of proportion'' but he said he'll investigate, even speak to the Football Coach to find out exactly what happened, at which point perhaps he'll share that info with concerned parents who wonder, along with us in the media, what a ''sexual'' assault allegation means.  Meantime the season marches on because that's the important thing, right ?

A dance party for kids and tweens looks like a rave or perhaps a wild night at the club. But actually, many of the people at this party probably just learned how to tie their shoes. Twin brothers Tyler and Tristin recently had a FUZIPOP party in Manhattan to celebrate their 10th birthday. Never heard of a FUZIPOP party?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the federal prosecutor investigating political payback allegations involving the Republican's administration are both set to speak at a prisoner re-entry conference on Thursday.
Former NBA player Jayson Williams says trying to re-enter society after serving time for shooting a limousine driver was more difficult than being in prison.
