Bridal shop evicted, huge sale to blow out inventory

Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -

After a Mesa bridal shop closed its doors unexpectedly Thursday, brides were left staring through the glass windows at their dresses locked inside.

Arizona Bridal and Formal Shop was two weeks behind in rent when they were served with an eviction notice.

"About an hour and a half before we were supposed to open, got an email from the landlord's attorney, telling us that they changed the locks and we couldn't get in," said Jim Butler, owner of Arizona's Bridal & Formal in Mesa.

"We've tried to negotiate to stay at least until our lease was out and they had no interest in doing that."

Money problems are causing the shop to officially close, but it might turn out to be good news for valley brides.

Their going out of business sale is from noon to 7 p.m. on Monday.

Many dresses are at an extremely discounted price because they have to get rid of everything in their inventory.

"I'm like a college student and so the prices for dresses are so outrageous nowadays, to be able to have an affordable dress is really nice," said shopper Karmila Saulong.

Brides who had previously put in orders will be given dresses.

The Butlers sold nearly 20,000 dresses in their time there, and hope one day to return and sell more.

Calls to the property owner have not been returned.

FOX 10's Anita Roman reports.
