CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A man's body was found in a garbage can Monday morning in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

Streets & Sanitation Dept. workers discovered the body at 10 a.m. in an alley in the 700 block of West 61st Street, police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan said.

The man, thought to be in his 40's, remains unidentified Monday night, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

He was dead at the scene, and may have suffered head trauma, the medical examiner's office said.

The body was found only a block away from one of the Chicago Public Schools' Safe Passage Routes, about four blocks from Nicholson Technology Academy at 6006 S. Peoria St.

An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death is scheduled for Tuesday.
