Immigrant dad partners with Habitat to build family home

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -

A father in Stone Mountain celebrated achieving his dream of home ownership Sunday. He and his family celebrated, actually.

Hussein Yassin worked with a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity to provide his children with a good amount of room to play and grow. On Sunday, months of hard work paid off as smiles lit up his the faces of Yassin's children.

The Somalian immigrant's five children are excited to move into their new home. There's definitely plenty to room to run around and enjoy being a family.

Yassin said, "It's a great day because my kids can play everywhere they want.  That's the main importance.  My kids can play everywhere. Their own house."

The auto dealership employee volunteered with Habitat for Humanity every Friday, performing ‘sweat equity' hours. Yassin worked on other applicants' homes in order to quality for his own. He even mobilized friends and family to volunteer.

Hard work and dedication earned him a chance to purchase a foreclosed property through Habitat's program. About 150 volunteers and local businesses teamed up to make Yassin's house ‘move-in ready,' too.

Bob Boyd, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Dekalb, said,  "This was a previously foreclosed home and we are very sorry the previous owners were foreclosed but because it was a foreclosed home we were able to make it livable and new for our homeowners at lots less money."
