Bridal shop closes its doors; brides left without dresses

MESA, Ariz. -

Talk about a wedding nightmare.

Bride-to-be Kaitelyn Jurewicz showed up at Arizona's Bridal and Formal in Mesa Thursday to pick up her dress for her wedding in November.

"It was beautiful, it made my mom cry when she saw me in it, so I kind of knew it was the one," she said.

Only to find the doors locked.  The business had shut down without notice.

"Everything was kind of falling into place the way I wanted it to -- until today."

The owner of Arizona's Bridal told me he was about two weeks behind paying rent and on Monday, the property's owner changed the locks -- taking possession of the building and all the dresses inside.

"But we've been trying to work with them and unfortunately, we are in the situation that we are in right now," said Jim Butler.

Butler says there are up to two dozen dresses inside waiting to be picked up, but he has no way to get in and get them to customers.

"They're obviously frustrated.  I'm very frustrated because it's our livelihood.  I've got my five children, my wife and I.  We started our business in Mesa in 2001 and now we can't even get into our business.

Kaitelyn left without the dress she paid $1,300 for.  Now she's trying to figure out what to do next.

"I have no idea. I need to go find a dress. And a way to pay for it," she said.

The owner called me to say he got in touch with Kaitelyn and is going to give her a full refund for her dress.  He's also set up a special e-mail for customers who have paid for dresses and now can't get them.
