MESA, Ariz. -

Authorities say a suspect is in custody in connection with a fatal hit & run accident in Mesa last week.

Mesa police said 36-year-old Matthew S. McIver was booked into jail Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

They say McIver's car has been impounded as part of the investigation of last Tuesday night's accident that killed a bicyclist in his late-60s.

Richard Welck was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were looking for a white SUV with front-end damage and say a tip from a citizen helped lead to the arrest.

"We want to thank our community and local media for spreading the word, which directly contributed to bringing this suspect to justice.  Hopefully this brings some closure to our victim's family and the surrounding community," stated Mesa Police Sgt. Tony Landato.

Authorities didn't immediately know if McIver has an attorney yet.
