Mayor Garcetti Asks That Angelinos Petition To ‘Fix DWP’

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) In this ongoing saga, last week ended with City Controller Ron Galperin reporting that DWP employees were paid 77.3 million dollars in overtime and extra pay in the first 6 months of 2013. Now, this week has Mayor Garcetti campaigning hard to make the normally quiet negotiations of a new employees contract very public. He's created an online petition encouraging Angelinos to "FIX DWP" and side with him that "secret deals and... perks" must end.

He spent Monday night talking with Neighborhood Council leaders asking them to talk to their councilmembers some, of whom, support a proposed contract on the table from the union that would have no pay increases for the next three years, but a 4% bump in 2016. The City Council is taking behind closed doors about a pension related lawsuit. There are many layers to this debate and all seem to be intensifying.
