In new book, HLN anchor reveals details about Arias

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

She spent months here in the valley covering the Jodi Arias trial for her national television audience. But now HeadLine News anchor Jane Velez-Mitchell is going even deeper into the case.

Tuesday, she is releasing a book that she says has facts that nobody heard in the courtroom.

Jodi Arias is a convicted murderer, still sitting in jail waiting to find out if she lives or dies for her crime.

Most of us know the basics -- that Arias stalked and violently killed her lover Travis Alexander. But in her new book "Exposed: The Secret Life of Jodi Arias," HLN anchor Jane Velez-Mitchell says she uncovered some of the motivations behind Jodi's crime.

I spoke with her today on Skype.

"I really believe that if we learn something and understand the toxic dynamic behind this case, then Travis will not have died in vain."

Through numerous interviews, Velez says she got information that wasn't allowed in the trial. She claims Jodi first became mentally ill when she moved to Yreka, California as a teen. That Jodi stalked another boyfriend. And that Jodi's claims that Travis was the instigator in their extreme sexual relationship are bogus.

"Nothing could be further from the truth. Travis told his very best friend that Jodi was a nymphomaniac that was capable of 8, 9 even 13 orgasms in a row. Not to be too graphic but that's exactly what he said."

Even though this case and this book are filled with sex, violence, and lies, there are also lessons to be learned by what happened.

"It has certainly given me an insight into red flags for certain people. If they lie about little things, if they are manipulative, if they don't have a sense of self and latch on."

Jane Velez-Mitchell is so high energy, and I've met her couple of times now. She's the same in person as she is on TV.

Her book is available everywhere Tuesday.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
