The Suffolk County SPCA is looking for information about the person who abandoned a 2-1/2-foot ball python on the side of a street on Tuesday.

An SPCA officer found the snake, which is in good health, inside a glass terrarium with a sliding-screen top, the Chief Roy Gross. The tank was in a grassy area near the intersection of Longshore Street and Reilly Street in Bay Shore. About 1 inch of rainwater had pooled in the tank, Goss said in a news release.

Chief Gross said that a $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who dumped the snake in the street. If you have information you can call the SPCA at 631-382-7722.
