SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Recently on "Let It Rip", political consultant Skip Mongo credited Mike Duggan's overwhelming write-in victory to votes from Detroiters who aren't black.

"Mr. Duggan, he got 45 percent of 17 percent of the registered voters, and when you look at those numbers and you look at where he was strong at, it's in areas where there's a high concentration of non-African-Americans," Mongo said.

The Duggan campaign didn't like that so much, and Friday they came out swinging.

"The part that's disturbing is that it's just inaccurate," said campaign manager Bryan Barnhill.

The Duggan campaign's analysis shows 94 percent of the precincts across the City of Detroit voted for their candidate.

"This is not a neighborhood thing. This is not a class thing. It's not much of a race thing," Barnhill said.

Now that the primary is over, the general election is taking center stage, and both Mike Duggan and Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon will have to work to make sure their message resonates with even more Detroiters.
