The Cheesecake Factory opening soon at Novi's Twelve Oaks Mall

NOVI, Mich. (WJBK) -

So close you can almost taste it. The Cheesecake Factory is making the final preparations before their big opening at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. The restaurant will be the popular chain's first Michigan location.

To make sure servers and staff are ready, special guest are getting a preview of the 8,400 square foot dining room during invitation only lunch and dinner service Thursday and Friday. The official grand opening is Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 11:00 a.m. In all, the restaurant has brought more than 280 new jobs to the area.

Foodies will find a menu loaded with 250 items and 50 signature cheesecakes. The dining room will seat about 225 guests plus another 60 on the patio. The Cheesecake Factory founder, David Overton, is a Detroit native. "Having grown up in Detroit and watched my parents start their cheesecake business here in the 1950s, opening a Cheesecake Factory at Twelve Oaks feels like a true homecoming," said Overton.

    A New Jersey woman has filed a lawsuit against the state's Motor Vehicle Commission, claiming the agency rejected her application for a license plate proclaiming she's an Atheist. Shannon Morgan filed the suit in federal court, saying the rejection of a plate reading "8THEIST" is a violation of her First Amendment rights. The Maurice River Township woman claims plates reading "BAPTIST" have been approved.
