PHOENIX -

A hit and run suspect is in custody after Department of Public Safety officials say he crashed his car on Interstate 17, then a short time later, crashed into a business near Bell Road and took off from the scene.

Authorities found the suspect hiding in a porta-potty and took him into custody.

"The guy seemed to either make a U-turn or head toward oncoming traffic and out of nowhere.. we couldn't avoid it, said Paul Yalda, a witness at the scene.  "He tried getting away.. hit another car.. he then took off with his car all mangled up, that's his bumper right there in the road."

Yalda says no one in the car, including a 3-year-old child, was hurt.

The suspect's name was not released.
