Atlanta Public Schools clarifies bus stop times

ATLANTA -

FOX 5 has learned that Atlanta Public Schools inaccurately listed bus departure times before 6 a.m. on its website.

School officials answered complaints from parents on Thursday after its website falsely reported buses arriving as early as 5:45 a.m.

"There was an error on our website, which I think has caused a lot of the confusion and the angst and we understand that," said Steve Smith of Atlanta Public Schools.

The average pick-up time for most grade school students is around 6:25 a.m. (CLICK HERE FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION FROM APS)

Officials have consolidated bus routes to be more efficient and save money.

The plan calls for 50 fewer buses.

At the grade school level, the children will arrive at their schools about 45 minutes before the 8 a.m. bell.

"When those students are dropped off, they will have the ability to come into a very highly supervised facility, have a hot breakfast, move from there to their classroom," Smith said.

Open houses will be held at every APS school system-wide on Monday. Parents can get bus route and other information needed for the start of school.
