'Haltrans' At Caltrans - A Stop And Go Tour

Posted: Updated:

Honk your horns...turn on your blinkers or flash your brights...because it's time for "Haltrans" at Caltrans. Hal Eisner is dodging the traffic commute at the Caltrans Traffic Management Center.

We have your "stop and go" tour of what they do to help your drive.

For more information about Caltrans, check out the Department Of Transportation official website HERE.

From Hal Eisner:

LIVE from CalTrans' Traffic Management Center we showed you the many people who watch you when your driving on LA freeways. They're not watching you in your car. They're watching the flow of traffic trying to improve it. When there is an accident they send out resources to help deal with congestion. There are over 10,000 electrical sensors under our freeways that help them know when traffic is slow as molasses or moving briskly. That information ends up on websites and smart phone apps to help you make the right choices before starting your trip.

For more information go to Quickmap.dot.CA.gov or www.dot.CA.gov

And, one more thought. These guys and gals in the TMC are just like you. When they're in traffic they say they hate it. Difference is they're trying to make it better!

On FOX 11 this morning we invited you to write in questions for CalTrans officials. As promised we asked quite a few of them and here are some of those answers. On the hot seat are John Yang and Judy Gish with CalTrans.

Police responded to the Brooklyn Bridge where two whitewashed American flags were raised on Tuesday. It is not clear who raised the flags or why. The American flags that are normally up at the bridge appeared to have been removed. The white flags were placed on the stone supports that hold cables above the span. Several officers scaled the bridge and lowered one of the flags at about 11 a.m. and the second about 20 minutes later.

Not guilty plea from driver in NJ police officer death

The man accused of driving the tractor-trailer that slammed into a police officer operating a radar gun in Waldwick, New Jersey, has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide. Ryan Cumberbatch, of Brooklyn, made an initial court appearance in Hackensack on Monday. Cumberbatch only spoke during the brief hearing to say he understood the charge. His attorney said they wouldn't comment out of respect for the police officer's family.
