EVANSTON, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two brothers were found shot to death in the basement of an Evanston tobacco shop Tuesday night.

About 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Evanston police went to the Evanston Pipe & Tobacco shop, 923 Davis Street in the north suburb, to check on the men following concerns from a family member, police said.

The bodies of the two men -- identified as brothers Azim Hakeem, 38, and Mobeen Hakeem, 34 -- were found in the basement of the business of apparent gunshot wounds, police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

The two men are both Evanston residents, police said.

Police say there were no indications that a robbery had taken place at the scene and this incident is being classified as a death investigation as of Wednesday morning.

Evanston Police detectives and investigators from the North Regional Major Crime Task Force are assisting in the investigation.
