Atlanta Public Schools: Relocations, closures and new schools

ATLANTA -

Construction and renovation projects will require several Atlanta Public Schools to relocate for the start of the 2013-2014 school year. Some relocations will be temporary, but some will last for the entire school year.  

Here is a complete list of the relocated schools and where their classes will resume:

Bunche Middle School

Will temporarily relocate to the former Archer High School facility during the renovation of Bunche Middle School.  Archer High School is located at 2250 Perry Blvd., NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.

Coan Middle School

Will remain at the former E. Lake Elementary School facility until end of school year.  E. Lake Elementary School is located at 145 Fourth Ave., S.E., Atlanta, GA 30317.

Drew Charter School

Drew Charter School grades 6-9 will temporarily use two upper floors of Kennedy Middle School during their campus expansion.  Kennedy Middle school is located at 225 James P. Brawley, Dr., NW, Atlanta, GA 30314.

Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School

Will remain at the Coan Middle School facility until end of December 2013.  Coan Middle School is located at 1550 Hosea Williams Dr., NE, Atlanta, GA 30317.

North Atlanta High School

Will permanently relocate to a new campus at 4111 Northside Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30327.

Parks Middle School

Students will merge with Sylvan Hills Middle School and will be temporarily housed at the Parks facility at 1090 Windsor St., SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.

E. Rivers Elementary School

Will temporarily relocate to the Sutton Middle School campus during construction of a new facility.  Sutton Middle School is located at 4360 Powers Ferry Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.

Sutton Middle School

Will permanently relocate to the former North Atlanta High School facility at 2175 Northside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30305.

Sylvan Hills Middle School

Will merge with Parks Middle School. Sylvan will be housed at the former Parks Middle School facility until the construction of a new facility is completed on their existing campus.
The facility is located at 1090 Windsor St., SW, Atlanta, GA 30310.

Wesley International Academy (Charter) (K-8)

Relocating to the old Cook Elementary School building located at 211 Memorial Drive, SE, 30312.


School Closure

The following schools will be closing this year:

Atlanta Preparatory Academy (Charter School)
Students will return to their zoned traditional APS schools.
 
Parks Middle School (Redistricting)
Students are merging with Sylvan Hills Middle School and will be housed at the former Parks Middle School site.

    A school and many homes in Ocean County, N.J., were evacuated on Thursday afternoon because of several brush fires that were fanned by winds. Some residents returned a few hours later. The largest fires burned about 300 acres around Berkeley Township. Firefighters had about 30 percent contained late Thursday night.
