AVONDALE, Ariz. -

A man was shot and killed by an Avondale police officer after reportedly acting erratically inside a convenience store.

The shooting occurred at about 8 a.m. in the parking lot of a Circle K convenience store at the intersection of Avondale Boulevard and McDowell Road.

Avondale police say the man was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital for treatment after Tuesday morning's incident.

Police received a call about disorderly person inside the store and sent out a patrol car to the scene. The suspect displayed a weapon -- a knife and a Taser gun -- towards officers, who responded with deadly force.

The officer wasn't injured and will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Shaun Nathaniel Walters.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
