35 set to graduate Atlanta police academy

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say they're welcoming 35 new officers to the force.

Department spokesman Carlos Campos says the new officers will graduate from the Atlanta Police Academy Monday evening at City Hall.

Campos says the graduation ceremony is the culmination of a 21-week training program and 12 weeks of training with veteran officers.

Campos says the training program included courses in constitutional law, Atlanta Police Department policy and procedure, defensive tactics, arrest techniques and physical fitness.

The graduating class consists of 11 women and 24 men. Campos says the class includes a 39-year-old single mother who began the process of becoming an Atlanta police officer two years ago.
