Gilbert officer breaks hand during scuffle with suspect

A Gilbert Police officer was injured while trying to arrest a suspect wanted on multiple outstanding warrants early Saturday morning.

According to police, they were pursuing a wanted suspect near McQueen and Erie when he crashed into an oncoming vehicle and then a police car.

The man allegedly ran from officers, but was caught shortly afterward.

Police say a Gilbert officer broke his hand while trying to arrest the male suspect. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The driver hit by the suspect narrowly missed an occupied apartment building after the crash. According to police, the driver was injured and taken to a hospital.

The suspect also had minor injuries and was treated by medics.

Police say both the suspect and his female passenger were arrested on numerous charges.

Inside the vehicle, officers say they found meth paraphernalia and a loaded gun.

No name have been released.
