Michigan Chronicle provides Detroit voters guide

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

With Detroit's primary election fast approaching and the changes in voting for city council by District, the Michigan Chronicle has published a voter's guide, called CityVote to encourage citizens to vote and assist in navigating the voting process. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6.

"This year is one of the most critical election seasons that we as Detroiter's have faced in a long time," said Hiram E. Jackson, publisher of the Michigan Chronicle. "We can no longer afford to be complacent about our right to vote and must ensure that our collective voice is heard."

CityVote was born out of the Michigan Chronicle's tradition of providing Detroiters with information and resources to help them make better decisions about issues that affect their lives. The guide includes unbiased information to help voters make informed decisions about the four races on the ballot - mayor, city council, police commissioner and city council - with the most significant change being in the race for city council.

The voter's guide outlines the seven city council districts and provides a compiled list of polling locations, complete with addresses, of each location. It also includes information on:

  • Voter rights and responsibilities
  • Do's and don'ts of voting
  • Absentee voting, and
  • The rights of voter's with disabilities

CityVote is available at the Michigan Chronicle, 479 Ledyard in Detroit. A digital edition of the periodical can be obtained by visiting www.michiganchronicle.com
