Overnight Low Ends Record Heat Spell In Philly

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Finally, the relief we've been looking for from a record spell of hot weather came overnight when our temperature dipped into the 60s.

How long has it been since we last saw temperatures in the 60s in the city?

According to the National Weather Service, it was shortly before midnight when the temperature in Philadelphia dropped below the 70-degree mark for the first time since June 23.

As a result, the new record for consecutive days at Philadelphia with a minimum temperature of 70 degrees or higher is now 30. The previous record was 26 days, which occurred from July 12 through Aug. 6 in 1995.

It's a breath of fresh air out there this morning as we are running a good 10 to 15 degrees cooler than where we were at this time Wednesday. It's also a lot less humid.

We're expecting to get to a high of just 77 today under cloudy skies.

However, the seven-day forecast shows the 70s are short-lived as we hit 83 tomorrow with more sunshine. It should be a beautiful end to the workweek.

Expect more clouds and showers over the weekend with seasonable temperatures into early next week.
