LAX Employees Crowd Parking From Del Aire Residents

Posted: Updated:
Del Aire, CA -

(FOX 11) Del Aire residents say they are being overrun by LAX employees. They say at times, they can't find a single spot on the street to park in their own neighborhood.

Every day you can see airport employees parking their cars and walking away.  They park in the Del Aire neighborhood which is just about a block away from where they pick up the shuttle to the airport.  Residents try everything to stop people from parking in front of their houses.  They put out signs, orange cones and trash cans but they say LAX employees move everything out of the way and just park there, leaving no space for the people who actually live in the neighborhood.  We spoke to both, the residents and LAX employees, who say they park in the neighborhood because airport parking is too expensive.

Homeowners have  complained to LAX, the city and the county and so far, nothing has been done.   There are restricted parking signs on the L-A City side of the street but residents say no one is ever ticketed for parking longer than 2 hours.  For the Unincorporated County side of Del Aire, homeowners are looking into making it a parking-permit-only-area, of course, that would cost them money.   Tonight at 7, there's a meeting to discuss the parking problems.   A representative from LAX and the County will meet with the residents. We'll continue to keep an eye on this situation.

Going off to college is an exciting time for the entire family, especially for the upcoming freshman. But with technology, parents can be in touch all the time. What's too much and what's just enough? Freshman move-in day seems to be harder on the parents than the students at Stony Brook University.
