The front wheels of a Southwest Airlines plane collapsed on the runway at LaGuardia Airport in New York on Monday afternoon.

Officials say the accident sent the aircraft skidding before it came to a halt.

Ten passengers were treated at the scene, with six being taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The six crew members were taken to another hospital for observation.

Flight No. 345 was headed from Nashville to LaGuardia Airport and had 150 passengers and crew members on board. It arrived in New York at 5:40 p.m. EDT.

Photos and video shot by former Dallas City Council candidate Bobby Abtahi show the front nose of the plane laying flat on the ground.

Abtahi was waiting for a flight to Dallas when he saw in his peripheral vision the plane skidding down the runway.

"The nose was down, sparks everywhere and it skidded to a halt," Abtahi said in a phone interview on-air with FOX4.

Abtahi said he saw the chutes deploy from the sides and it appeared people were evacuating the plane.

LaGuardia Airport was closed to incoming air traffic after the incident and remained closed through most of the evening.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is headed to the airport to begin its investigation.
