Woman accused of trying to smuggle $100K out of US

Posted: Updated:

NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities in southern Arizona say a California woman is in custody for allegedly trying to smuggle $100,000 in cash into Mexico in a laundry detergent box.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Dennis DeConcini Port in Nogales were conducting outbound inspections Saturday and selected a sedan driven by 29-year-old Blanca Gabriela Medina of El Monte for an additional inspection.

Officers say they searched the vehicle and found 10 packages of cash hidden in a box of detergent.

The vehicle and cash were processed for seizure.

Medina was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Authorities didn't immediately know Monday if Medina has an attorney yet.
