Washout forces evacuation at Marietta apartment complex

Residents in one building at the Ivey Ridge Apartments in Marietta were forced from their homes on Saturday after the ground began to wash out underneath the building. MARIETTA, Ga. -

A Marietta apartment building was evacuated after the ground underneath it washed out on Saturday afternoon.  It happened the Ivey Ridge Apartments on Bently Drive.

Cobb County authorities say no injuries were reported.  They say building number 13 on the property was evacuated, and the Red Cross was called in to assist residents.

Authorities say residents cannot return to the building because it is structurally unsafe.

The washout was caused by heavy rains in the area.  One resident told FOX 5 when the ground began to erode underneath the building, it sounded and felt like an earthquake.

    The body of a missing New Jersey religious student who disappeared during a hike in a forest outside Jerusalem last week has been found. Aaron Sofer, 23, of Lakewood, N.J., had been missing since Friday, when he went on a hike with a friend in the Jerusalem Forest and the two became separated, said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld.
