Heat Wave To End After Cold Front Brings Storms

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

We've got a little more excessive heat to contend with Saturday before things start cooling off a little.

We got to a high of 97 degrees on Friday, 10 degrees above normal, and it felt like a sauna with high humidity pushing the feels-like temperature to 107. There were a few isolated thunderstorms that popped up primarily north and west of the Philadelphia area.

Saturday is not going to be a complete wash out. But we will keep tabs on a cold front that will move through during the afternoon with the potential for some strong and severe thunderstorms.

We still have those excessive heat advisors and warnings posted across our area really for the core of the Interstate 95 corridor through the afternoon.

We should get to 94 degrees with a heat index once again exceeding 100.

The main event for Saturday will be a line of showers and thunderstorms to our north and west. We'll keep tabs on that front for the potential of gusty winds, lightning and hail throughout the afternoon and evening.

Storm prediction center has areas north and west of Philadelphia, including the Poconos, in that slight risk but we can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm or two around our area packing a punch.

By Sunday, the forecast is clouds with warm temperatures in the 80s, but it will be less humid because of Saturday night's cold front moving through.

All next week temperatures that are more seasonable in the 80s with those pop up showers and storms during the heat of the day.

It's been awhile since we've seen average temperatures.
