PHILADELPHIA -

It was the hottest day of the year so far. But you think 95 degrees was bad??

Armed with our pyrometer to measure surface temperatures, we set out to find the hottest place around.

"How hot do you think you are?" we asked a pretty lady on the street.

"I have no idea."

"You want to find out?" we asked.

"Yes," she answered.

"97 degrees."

"That's pretty hot," she says.

"You are a 105 degrees." we tell another person.

"That's a little too hot. I better get a drink," he says.

Bike seat: 151.

Street pole: 123 degrees.

We're going to see how hot it is inside Kari's car.

"Kari, it is 115 degrees in your car. And it's only been there for 20 minutes," we told her.

But that's nothing. Over at Broad Street Dry Cleaners, fans are buzzing and there's Gatorade by the gallon.

"The reason why it's so hot is all the machines pumping steam all day long," says Sae An from Broad Street Cleaners. We tested the temperature in there. It was 142 degrees.

How about behind the stove at Han Dynasty restaurant?

How hot can it get back here? "Pretty freaking hot!" says the chef.

And here's a hot tip from the chef.

"When you eat spicy your body temperature goes up, you sweat and you feel cooler it just cools you down," says Han Chiang.

But the hottest place we came across is a mid-day paving project that was rolling out steaming hot asphalt.

"The asphalt is coming out of the truck around 275 degrees. And as the day goes on and the heat stays into the street it gets hotter, " says John Sucher of Joseph E. Sucher and Sons.

So we put the hot asphalt to good use.

You know the old saying it's so hot you can fry an egg? That's exactly what we did. We made a little omelet in two minutes.

But some didn't mind the heat. Including those who spent the entire day waiting in line for a concert at Penn's Landing. Demi Lovato is performing, and many of her fans braved the heat to get a good spot in the free concert. Water was in high demand.

"It's been terrible. I got a bag of ice here, got on the back of my neck a big cup of water. Trying to stay cool," says a fan. His drink was 39 Degrees, according to our pyrometer.

Looking forward to snow? "Right about now, yeah," says the fan waiting in line.

There are several shows weekly at 14 different parks throughout the five boroughs. A recent show at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park paid tribute to Pete Seeger. Most of the shows are free and are funded by tickets purchased for the some of the bigger acts.
