Friends with your kids on social media? May help your real life

Updated:

Are you friends with your kids on Facebook? A study says "liking" what your kids do online can make you like each other more in real life.

Teenagers who interact with their parents on social media may feel a stronger bond, according to a survey by scientists at Brigham Young University in Utah.

If you and your kids are friends on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, the study shows teens are more generous and helpful to other people.

Out of 500 families surveyed, half of the teens are connected to their parents on social media and 16 percent said they interact with their parents online daily.

Social media interaction probably won't help parents who aren't already close to their children.

Parents who connect with their children online probably already have a strong bond, but the interaction can continue to strengthen it.

Although, parents don't want to go overboard on social media by posting embarrassing pictures or posts.
