Bullet hits PA hospital window and patient, 62

Posted: Updated:

UPLAND, Pa. (AP) — A county prosecutor says a bullet may have traveled more than a mile before piercing a hospital window and striking a 62-year-old patient near Philadelphia.

A hospital spokesman says the woman was struck in the abdomen and is in stable condition after surgery early Tuesday at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan calls the wound superficial and says there's no reason to think the woman was targeted. He calls the hospital safe.

Whelan says it's not yet clear where the bullet came from or who fired it.

Authorities say a projectile was found on the woman's bed in her private room after the shooting, which occurred just before midnight Monday.
