Provocative new art exhibit compares KKK to black-on-black violence

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The modern day Ku Klux Klan, as depicted by well-known artist James Pate is young, black and blind to the model they're following.

It can all be seen in a thought-provoking art exhibit called "Kin Killin' Kin," opening this weekend at Dusable Museum of African American History.

It's a rather shocking display of hoodlums, in pointed hoods.

"The concept of visually comparing Black on Black terrorism to Ku Klux Klan terrorism came directly from conversations among us in the Black community," Pate says in a statement on the museum's website.

FOX 32's Robin Robinson got an exclusive first look at the shocking art.

Dr. Carol Adams who works at the museum says she's looking for a way to bring young offenders in to see the art and engage in conversation.

"They're not meant to be beautiful," she explains. "They're meant to jar and shock you and make you feel outraged and sad, and mad again, enough to do something."

The "Kin Killin' Kin" exhibit runs from July 13 through November 20. To learn more about the series and its meaning, click here.
