ALERT: Increase in South Loop CTA robberies

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police have issued an alert for the South Loop area warning people of an increase in robberies of cell phones and purses on CTA trains and platforms.

Robberies have occurred in late June and early July at the following locations:

— The 00 block of West Polk on June 24 at about 1 p.m.;

— 700 block of South State on July, 6 at about 2 p.m.;

— 00 block of West Polk on July 7 about 6:15 p.m.

In each incident a man used force or the threat of force to take iPhones and purses from people on CTA trains and platforms.

The suspect was described as a black man 25-30, 5-foot-9 to 6 feet and 160-180 pounds.
