Dog stolen out of truck found locked in porta-potty

PHOENIX -

There's some good news for a Phoenix couple whose dog was stolen from their truck. The dog has been returned – but it appears whoever took the pet abused it.

After our story aired last night at 10, someone recognized the dog, tracked down the owner, and Thursday morning they were reunited.

"Back home, safe -- and I'm happy," says owner Delbert Weaver.

Keelo, the American bulldog mix, and his owner are reunited after a traumatic series of events.

On Tuesday, Keelo was stolen out of Weaver's running truck at a Circle K when he went inside to buy the dog a hot dog. Then, Wednesday night, the call he had been waiting for.

"Excited, excited and anxious to go get him."

Keelo was found by a group of construction workers locked in a porta-potty about 10 miles away from where he was stolen. Keelo was dehydrated, beaten, and shot or stabbed.

"He's lucky to be here, they say, a little to the left, a little to the right, anything, he wouldn't be here. They don't know if he was stabbed through the neck or a bullet wound, they can't positively identify which it was," says Weaver.

Weaver is glad the pup is back where he belongs so he can nurse him back to health.

"I don't know what he went through or what someone was thinking -- I'm at a loss for words for that. I 'm happy I got him back."

Weaver rescued Keelo from an abusive home, so he's sad he was abused again, but knows he'll pull through.

"He's a tough dog."

If you have any information about what may have happened to Keelo -- you're asked to give Phoenix Police a call.
