Brazil -

Red Balloon is the leading English school in Brazil and a few months ago they had their students correct celebrities' tweets.

An article on Buzz Feed is generating traffic on the Internet for the Red Balloon English School in Brazil.

The school had the kids correct celebrity tweets.  The kids aged 8 to 13 were called "Grammar Cops."  They politely tweeted corrections back to the celebrities. Read their corrections, click here,>>

According to the video embedded at the top of this story, the teachers at the school wanted to make sure the kids knew their idols weren't right when it came to spelling and grammar.

The video seems is being used as a promotion for the school.

Someone claiming to be a teacher at the school posted this comment in the Facebook section of the Buzz Feed story:

To my mind, the message they're trying to put across is simple: young learners are in touch with technology and Internet all the time, and they also tend to think that native English speakers (specially their idols) are always right. The video/project shows that this is not the case and if they WANT to learn accurately they should be aware of what's right and wrong. Note that they didn't focus on 'Internet language' such as 'U R', '4 U', but mostly on spelling and grammar topics, which are things they're currently learning. And well, after all, this is just a commercial within the school. Thanks for posting this lovely article! ;)

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
