Police: 6 men crashed van into market, stole entire ATM

ATLANTA -

Atlanta police say six men crashed a white Dodge Caravan into a storefront on Edgewood Avenue in southeast Atlanta and stole an entire ATM. Security cameras captured the robbery on video.

Officers arriving at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market, located in the 200 block of Edgewood Avenue, immediately noticed the severe damage caused by the crashed Caravan. Police, who later reviewed security video from the market, say the suspects broke into the store at 4:55 a.m. and took off with the ATM about 5:08 a.m.

Atlanta police say the business was closed and that no one was at the market when the robbery happened. Police noted that the doors to the market were fitted with burglar bars.

On their walk-through, officers discovered the market's ATM had been taken. A security guard for the business provided Atlanta police with security video footage from store surveillance cameras, police said.

Police say the video also showed the suspects kept a getaway car just outside of the market. It showed them using an extension cord to drag the ATM machine out of the market space and place it into the bed of a red pick-up truck.

The six suspects then got into the rear of the truck and fled the crime scene, police said. Officers later confirmed that the Dodge Caravan had been stolen.

Police have not released a description of any of the suspects or commented on how much money was in the stolen ATM.

Managers at the Sweet Auburn Curb Market said that the doors damaged during the heist can't be repaired. Until they can customize it, they'll have to put up plywood and hire a night security guard.

Investigators are comparing this ATM robbery to another one that happened Monday at a BP service station on Ponce de Leon Avenue in southeast Atlanta.
