Brain injury survivor competing in NYC triathlon

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

One of the most inspiring stories likely to emerge from the 2013 Aquaphor NYC Triathlon will be that of brain injury survivor Allan Tyson.

In 2003, he was involved in a bicycle accident that left him with difficulties moving his left leg.

He told Fox 5 Sports reporter Ryan Asselta that he's determined to complete his third triathlon on Saturday.

"Besides being able to run further and longer, I also became better at communicating with others," said Tyson about training for the triathlon which includes a 1500 meter swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run.

Tyson has been training with a member of Achilles International which pairs disabled athletes with a team mate.

"I see myself as his second set of eyes. I try to paint the most vivid picture of what's going on around us," said Diego Suarez.

The pair train in tandem in biking, riding and swimming.

"He's the one forcing me to get up in the morning and work out," said Suarez.
